Okay, so what are you looking for?
Seriously. What are you looking for?
Let us guess, a bargaining tool for when techie mate picks up something wrong with the vehicle.
Ah, see. True colours are showing now. Do you honestly think that you would be the first person ever in a million years to turn up at a dealership / garage, equipped with a mechanic in tow?
Honestly, they weren't born yesterday.
You see, as much as coming along with Mickey the mechanic and Tezza the techie is a sensible idea, don't think its your passport into getting a really cheap car.
There's a good chance that you've turned up in the first place because it was cheap anyway.
Vehicles at dealerships / garages are valued by using various different systems that they have access to. These valuations take into account specs, conditions, mileage and similar priced vehicles in the area.
If there is anything wrong with said vehicle when they took possession of it, will have been sorted by the vehicle having an inspection and anything changed as part of its preparation for resale.
Having something go wrong with the vehicle after you've taken possession of it, is highly coincidental. They haven't sold you a dodgy motor.
In fact, in our years of experience and probably way beyond that, we have found that the most dodgy people to buy a used motor from, are the general public. Shocking eh?
There are regulations for all, but its the general public that you will find that won't hardly abide by them and not because they're all dodgy, but a good chunk won't even realise that regulations exist. Whereas a dealership / garage will know these rules and abide by them. They have to.
So, by all means, bring along a mechanic. It will be encouraged. But please don't use it as a bargaining tool. To a garage, it would still be cheaper to undertake further prep work if something was discovered and then sold full up again, than to knock £500 off the screen price.
As much as selling is the nature of the beast, some people they will allow to walk away, despite threats of doing so.
