Courtesy cars

I'm sorry? You want what?

We've all been there. Car booked in, courtesy car booked, appointment attended.

"Hang on?!? Thats not the same size as the gigantic SUV I've just dropped in for work! What is this rollaskate you are  presenting me with?"

Well, we have news for you. Your local dealer is not actually at liberty to provide a like for like vehicle. If they do, it will be at their discretion. At most, a dealership / garage will have between 2 to 5 courtesy cars. The likelihood is that the courtesy cars are the smallest cars in the range, with few dealers opting for a variety.

The brief from any manufacturer is simple. Whilst your vehicle is in for work, you are eligible for a courtesy car. The emphasis is keeping you mobile. And that's it.

Can you get back home? Can you get to work? Can you get the kids to school?

Yes! Of course you can.

If you're vehicle is full to the brim full of bits, that has nothing to do with your local dealership / garage. Their priority is the care on your vehicle, repairing it and returning it to you. Of course there is the element of customer care, but that doesn't extend to what you use your vehicle for.
Other arrangements are down to you.

Please do not be surprised when you rock up and find your SUV is being swapped for a citycar.

From our experience, the only time that a customer is offered a like for like vehicle is when your vehicle is in for a warranty repair and a part that is required to fix it is unobtainable. A third party hire company is then enlisted to provide a hire car* while your vehicle awaits the appropriate parts to repair it, so that you can remain mobile and carry out your life and work arrangements.

*May differ between manufacturers.
