They're just a business... Fact!
Yes that's right folks!
One of the most common misperceptions faced by your local garage is that the customer only really sees the brand of the manufacturer above the door and assumes that it is the manufacturer.
Got news for you me old china's. They're not. Okay, okay, a very very small percentage are financed by the manufacturer, but the rest? Well, they're just independent businesses.
That's right. Your local dealership that caters for brand new cars and its aftercare is in fact an independent business. However, as a business, they have franchised a brand to sell and look after a product, whilst adhering to guidelines set out by the manufacturer that they represent.
If you're not in the know, that might sound confusing, but franchising is popular. Your local supermarket, your local fast food outlet, pub chain, cinema etc., they're all at it!
Just because the brand name is above the door, it doesn't mean they're owned by them and your local dealership is no different.
So, before you start taking things into your own hands and dumping fully sign written cars outside with your disgruntlement on it, take a step back sunshine and have a word with yourself.
In all fairness, if you have a disgruntlement with a manufacturer, by all means take it up with the manufacturer. They have trained employees that can handle the next stage of a complaint. The dealership / garage will only be a liaison between yourself and a manufacturer for a period of time, to a point that they have exhausted all avenues.
But the actual showroom you stand in to buy, service, MOT and buy parts for your vehicle is more than likely owned by a group or a family.
Shocked? We thought so...
